Now is your chance to catch up on co-op legal and tax developments. CPA Rebecca Thoune and attorney Todd Hoppe will review the latest law changes affecting cooperatives and their members. Attendees will also get an update on the Corporate Transparency Act reporting requirements and potential reporting obligations of cooperatives and their subsidiaries.

Todd W. Hoppe, attorney with Foster Swift Collins & Smith, PC, represents agricultural marketing and supply cooperatives, consumer cooperatives, and purchasing groups organized as cooperatives. Todd helps form cooperatives, serves as general counsel, and advises clients on Capper-Volstead Act anti-trust compliance and other laws unique to cooperatives. He represents cooperatives in specific matters including business transactions and private- and state-registered securities offerings. Todd frequently educates on the rights and roles of co-op members. He is a member of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives and the National Council of Farmers Cooperatives’ Legal, Tax & Accounting Section. He is admitted to the bar in Michigan and earned his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School and his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University.

 Rebecca Thoune, CPA with CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, has 25 years of experience providing tax planning and compliance for privately held companies. Her primary focus is cooperatives and the agribusiness industry. She collaborates with clients to maximize cooperative and patron benefits through strategic tax planning, equity planning and management, and optimal business structuring. Rebecca represents clients before the IRS and other state taxing authorities. Rebecca has held various leadership roles and currently serves as CLA’s cooperative national tax director. She speaks frequently to local and national organizations on technical tax topics including the principles of cooperative taxation, tax planning and reform, equity management, and state tax matters. She is past president of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives’ Great Lakes Chapter, National Tax Committee Chair and a frequent contributor to their publication, The Cooperative Accountant. She is also a member of the National Council of Farmers Cooperatives’ Legal, Tax & Accounting Section. Rebecca earned a Master of Taxation from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
