After a full career as an accountant (California CPA license retired), I attended law school in Arkansas where I was introduced to the worker-owned cooperative. I returned to Alaska with hopes of helping to develop worker cooperatives in my community. I served on the board of a nonprofit where I facilitated its conversion to a worker self-directed nonprofit. I served on the Member Advisory Committee of my electric cooperative. I have always been a credit union member. As an attorney, I've provided limited assistance to a start-up worker cooperative and a mobile home park conversion. Alaska has favorable laws for cooperative businesses.
